Streamwood teens remembered as fun-loving, hardworking
Sep 5, 2017Ansgar Roman Catholic Church in Hanover Park Wednesday to mourn two young men who were among four teens killed in a fiery crash early Saturday morning in Burlington Township. At funeral Masses for Erick Silva, 18, and Andres Solis, 19, both of Streamwood, loved ones described them as stand-up guys who were liked by everyone.Andrew Hines graduated with Solis in June from Streamwood High School. He said Solis had two jobs so he could enroll in either trade school or Elgin Community College."Andres was a good kid and incredibly hardworking," said Hines. "He'd come hang out at my house just about every day."Hines saved a picture on his phone of the two of them trying on sombreros and serapes at a Halloween store last week. He spoke with Solis just hours before the crash."I know they were party-hopping, so I told him to be safe," Hines said. "It's just so unfortunate what happened."Authorities say Solis and Christian Miguel Godoy-Olvea, 19, were passengers in Silva's 2003 Pontiac Grand Am when it crossed the center line near Burlington and Plato roads, hitting an oncoming car driven by Marco Leon, 19, of Elgin. Leon, a Burlington Central High School graduate and ECC student, was headed to a Halloween party after work at Domino's Pizza.Toxicology reports are pending, but police suspect drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.A few mourners wore T-shirts printed with his picture. Pallbearer Andres Silva said his cousin, who had dropped out of Streamwood High and worked at the same landscaping company as Solis, was a prankster."He was one-of-a-kind," Andres said. "He was so happy and hilarious."Visitation for the fourth and final victim, Godoy-Olvea, takes place at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at Brust Funeral Home, 415 N. Gary Ave., Carol Stream. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 427 W. Army Trail Road, Bloomingdale. (Chicago Daily Herald)
